Job overview

The post holder is responsible for prioritisation, issue and completion of electrical maintenance work, utilising any information and management system in operation; assisting in the revision of working procedures and practices as necessary. The post holder is also responsible for ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are available when required, together with the supervision of both directly employed and contract staff.

The role would be principally based on either the Winchester site (also covering Andover), however dependant on the needs of the service it may be required to work on the other site locations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work in accordance with the requirements of the electrical HTMs, statutory regulations, IET Wiring Regulations and Trust policies, assessing situations, complex faults and requirements and proposing works to resolve:

• Ensure technical knowledge is maintained and shared with team. Propose updates and amendments to Trust-wide Policy and procedures
• To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner following the appropriate risk assessment at all times.
• Subject to an individual’s availability, work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
• Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the management.
• Act as Authorised Person for LV/HV Electrical Systems and Lifts.
• To attend training courses as required to maintain the ability to carry out the role.
• Follows detailed engineering drawings and specifications and interprets and follows the regulations at all times

• Manage site electrical teams including conducting appraisals, managing sickness absence, annual leave, appraisals, KSF and PDPs for all staff within areas of responsibility in line with Trust policy and process. Manage conduct and capability concerns where they arise.
• Manage directly employed staff and contractors by inspecting their work to monitor progress, quality and performance to ensure best value is obtained, provide challenge and make alternative recommendations if needed.
• Ensure directly employed staff and contractors are aware of and comply with any relevant Statutory, Regulatory, Health & Safety requirements and Trust policies and procedures. Take appropriate action to resolve non-compliance
• Monitor staff claim forms and advise the Site Maintenance Manager of any inaccuracies
• Manage the operational aspect of maintenance related service contacts to ensure that the agreed service levels are being met in order to meet customers needs and that correct payments can be made
• As required manage small works projects, including the preparation of specifications and cost estimates. Ensuring that the project is delivered to time, quality and cost

Person specification

Training and qualifications

Essential criteria

1. •Degree in relevant field plus specialist knowledge or equivalent knowledge acquired through courses (e.g. structured training programme in electrical engineering/installation) and experience.
2. •BTEC/ONC in electrical and electronic engineering or relevant experience
3. •18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations Certificate.
4. •Must have a thorough knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
5. Must have a working knowledge of: •HTM (Electrical) •Electrical distribution systems, •Emergency lighting, •Standby generators, •UPS systems, •Fire alarm systems, •Building management systems. •Health & Safety awareness training. •Asbestos awareness training. •AP in two relevant disciplines.

Desirable criteria

6. •LV Authorised Person (Training will be given to achieve this capability as it is a requirement of the role).
7. •HV Authorised Person
8. •Emergency first aid training.
9. •Experience of working with specialist medical electrical systems such as IPS.
10. •Experience of managing service contracts
11. •IOSH Managing Safety qualification.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria

12. •A minimum of one years’ post qualification experience working in an electrical maintenance environment.
13. •Good awareness of health & safety legislation and experience of working to safe systems of work.
14. •Work as an Authorised/Responsible Person on the following systems: - High Voltage Low Voltage Lifts

Desirable criteria

15. •Experience of working in an acute hospital environment
16. •Experience of working on Building Management Systems.
