About the Proposals Engineer (Applications Engineer) Role
As a Proposals Engineer Power Group, youll work closely with customers, internal engineering teams, and global offices to develop and deliver technical proposals for burner solutions. This includes interpreting specifications, calculating designs, sizing valves and equipment, estimating costs, and producing full commercial and technical proposals.
Youll also stay close to the customer throughout the quotation process answering technical questions, refining designs, and supporting the transition from quote to order. Whether youre building out a technical presentation or liaising with engineers across EMEA or the U.S., this is a career-defining opportunity for someone ready to balance engineering expertise with strategic sales thinking.
Key Responsibilities of the Proposals Engineer (Applications Engineer)
* Assess customer enquiries and design tailored combustion equipment solutions
* Size valves and instrumentation (e.g., flow meters), selecting suitable equipment and configurations
* Produce accurate technical proposals, cost estimates, and commercial documentation
* Support customers during the quotation process, resolving technical and commercial queries
* Provide process data and handover documentation to the project execution team
* Maintain quality and accuracy in all technical communications and calculations
* Contribute to technical marketing and sales presentation tools
* Collaborate with the wider Power Burners engineering team in the UK and internationally
* Ensure adherence to ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards
* Occasionally travel internationally for meetings, site visits, or commissioning support
What Were Looking For in a Proposals Engineer (Applications Engineer)
* Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Process, or similar preferred)
* Previous experience in technical sales, proposals engineering, or applications engineering
* Knowledge of combustion, fired equipment, burners, or process systems (preferred but not essential)
* Strong organisational skills with a high level of detail orientation
* Ability to understand and interpret technical specs and client requirements
* Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineers, sales, and clients
* Fluent in Microsoft Office especially Excel and Word
* Confident communicator with strong written and verbal presentation skills
* Based within 1 hour of Stamford (PE9 4AQ) with full UK driving licence
* Willing to travel internationally on occasion
