Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Maintenance Design Engineer in Leicestershire
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Maintenance Design Engineer to support a busy local authority team delivering a significant programme of carriageway and footway improvements across Leicestershire.
This role will play a key part in progressing essential highway schemes that are currently on hold pending resource, with a strong pipeline of work including carriageway schemes, a large-scale footway programme, and a major link road investment exceeding £1m. The successful candidate will be instrumental in unlocking delivery across a £5m carriageway programme.
Main Duties
* Producing detailed highway design drawings for carriageway and footway schemes.
* Developing and amending CAD drawings including road markings, keylines, and general highway layouts.
* Designing works such as resurfacing, blacktop changes, lowered kerbs, and minor civil engineering elements.
* Supporting delivery of two carriageway schemes in the Melton Mowbray area.
* Contributing to a large-scale footway improvement programme.
* Liaising with internal teams including Network Management and other stakeholders.
* Assisting with scheme development from concept through to delivery.
* Working collaboratively within the team during office-based days while maintaining flexibility remotely.
Key Experience
* Highway design and maintenance schemes within a local authority environment.
* Strong working knowledge of CAD software and production of technical drawings.
* Experience with carriageway and footway design, including resurfacing and minor civils works.
* Producing road marking drawings and working with keyline mapping systems.
* Understanding of highway construction methods and materials.
* Ability to manage workload and deliver designs within programme constraints.
* Strong communication skills and experience liaising with internal stakeholders.
This role offers hybrid working, with office presence typically required two days per week, and a minimum contract duration of 20 weeks with strong potential for extension due to ongoing workload and upcoming team changes.
