About Our Client
3. Our client, a well‑established not‑for‑profit organisation operating across the West Midlands, is seeking an experienced IT Engineer on an initial 4 month contract basis, with likely extension towards the end of 2026.
4. Based in Birmingham, they are expanding their technology estate, and investing heavily into upscaling their Modern Workplace environment and core infrastructure.
5. This role sits within a modern Microsoft‑led ICT environment and will focus on 2nd‑line operational support, infrastructure administration, and technical escalation, while supporting a Tier 1 Service Desk.
6. This assignment is Inside IR35 and will operate on a PAYE or umbrella basis.
Job Description
7. As the IT Systems Engineer you will provide 2nd‑line support and resolution of escalated ICT incidents.
8. Deliver day‑to‑day systems and network administration across cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
9. Monitor and support critical ICT services, identifying and addressing performance and security issues.
10. Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 and associated services.
11. Support infrastructure upgrades and technical project delivery.
12. Act as an escalation point and provide guidance to Tier 1 Service Desk colleagues.
13. Promote best‑practice use of digital tools and systems.
The Successful Applicant
As the successful candidate for the IT Systems Engineer role, you will have proven experience in:
14. A 2nd‑line IT Systems Engineer / Systems Administration contract role.
15. Comfortable working in an Inside IR35 engagement on a PAYE or umbrella basis.
16. Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
17. Flexible to travel to the main site in Birmingham, and two other sites in the West Midlands where required.
You will have strong, recent experience across the Microsoft stack, including:
18. Microsoft 365 (advanced administration)
19. Active Directory & Azure AD / Entra ID
20. Exchange Online
21. SharePoint Online
22. Group Policy Management
23. Microsoft Intune & Autopilot
24. Infrastructure administration and monitoring
Desirable experience:
25. Azure cloud services
26. Hyper‑V / virtualisation
27. LAN, WAN, VPNs and networking fundamentals
