Are you passionate about accounting and eager to make a real impact? We're seeking a talented individual, ideally CCAB/CIMA qualified or nearing the completion of a professional qualification. If you have extensive experience in accounting roles and a strong understanding of the statutory accountancy framework, along with solid accounting principles and techniques, we'd love to hear from you!
In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping and coordinating detailed revenue and capital budgets. These are crucial for developing our service business plan and the overall annual budget for the Combined Authority. You will manage a small team and provide invaluable financial advice and support to managers and colleagues within GMCA and partner organizations, contributing significantly to the effective management of our budgets.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Translating complex financial topics into simple terms for a broad audience, including those without finance backgrounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
2. Proficiency in a range of software applications, systems, and tools, with advanced skills in databases and spreadsheets to support analysis and decision-making.
3. Organizing and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards, demonstrating efficiency and attention to detail.
4. Remaining focused and impartial amidst multiple competing deadlines.
5. Being CCAB/CIMA qualified or actively working towards a qualification, supported by significant accounting experience.
6. Having a solid understanding of the statutory framework for accountancy, including familiarity with the CIPFA Accounting Code of Practice for Local Government and the Accounts and Audit Regulations.

This role is part of GMCA’s hybrid working scheme.
