About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Design Technology Teacher to join a vibrant and innovative secondary school in Aylesbury, rated Good by Ofsted. Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons for GCSE and BTEC Design & Technology courses, with a special focus on Resistant Materials and Graphics. Ensure that learning is accessible, challenging, and creative for all students.
Lesson Planning & Assessment:
Develop tailored lesson plans that incorporate various teaching methods, materials, and technologies to ensure students are motivated and engaged. Regularly assess student progress and provide feedback to encourage improvement.
Promote Design & Technology:
Advocate for the importance of Design & Technology within the school community by encouraging students to see the real-world applications of their learning. Help students develop their creative, technical, and practical skills through project-based learning.
Classroom Management & Safety:
Maintain a positive, structured, and safe environment, ensuring that students adhere to workshop safety protocols. Encourage respect for equipment, materials, and each other while maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning.
Collaboration with Colleagues:
Work closely with other members of the Design & Technology department to share resources, best practices, and ideas. Contribute to the wider school initiatives and extra-curricular activities related to Design & Technology.
Student Development:
Provide additional support to students who need extra help, including developing individual learning plans, providing 1:1 tutoring, and ensuring that students’ needs are met both academically and personally.
Parental Engagement:
Maintain strong communication with parents and carers to keep them informed about students' progress and any areas where they may need support.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS):
You must hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE or similar) for secondary education.
Teaching Experience:
Proven experience in teaching Design & Technology, especially Resistant Materials and Graphics, at Key Stage 3-5. Experience with BTEC courses is highly desirable.
Passion for Design & Technology:
A strong enthusiasm for Design & Technology, with a focus on practical, project-based learning. You should be able to bring creativity and energy to the subject.
Classroom Management Skills:
Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire students in both theory and practical lessons. Strong organisational skills, with a clear focus on health and safety in the workshop.
DBS Check:
An enhanced DBS check is required (or the willingness to obtain one).
References:
You must be able to provide two years’ worth of professional references.
Desirable:
Experience working with a variety of design software (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D printing technologies, Adobe Suite) and familiarity with current trends in design and technology would be an advantage.
