Salary scale of £58,379 - £65,723 per annum pro rata, Annex 21 applies as following: £48,527 per annum pro rata in year 1 (Annex 21 applies – 70% of a Band 8a in addition to equity of pay) and £48,527 per annum pro rata in year 2 (Annex 21 applies – 75% of a Band 8a in addition to equity of pay).

This is an opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist already working for Swansea Bay University Health Board, and preferably working within Child Psychology, to join our thriving General Paediatric Psychology Service (GPPS) for one day a week. GPPS works with children with medical conditions and their families and links with schools to ensure that children with medical conditions feel supported to attend school. The team is made up of three other part time psychologists and an Assistant Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

The psychologists work both directly and indirectly with children and families, offering individual and family appointments, workshops and consultation to staff. They provide support where the child's medical condition is impacting on their psychological wellbeing or when psychological factors are impacting on the child's condition or treatment. The service also offers placements to Trainee Psychologists.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Good honours Degree in Psychology. Eligibility for British Psychological Society Chartered status. Post-graduate Doctorate/Qualification in specialist area of (Clinical/Counselling/Forensic) Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or for those trained overseas, as accredited by the British Psychological Society or its equivalent allowing registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
2. Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainee Practitioner Psychologist. Doctoral level/ advanced knowledge of practitioner psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation.
3. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC.

4. Post-doctoral/qualification training courses in specific areas of practitioner psychology

5. Substantial assessed experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist, normally including significant post-qualification experience within the designated speciality where the post is located, or relevant transferable skills.

6. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care.

7. The ability to demonstrate a high level of competence to work within the designated speciality. Skills in the supervision of other staff including Trainee Practitioner Psychologists.
8. Well-developed skills in effectively communicating very complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information, both orally and in writing, to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

9. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
