Job title: Software Engineering Manager
Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire
Salary range: £60,000 - £80,000
The Malloy Aeronautics Team:
Malloy Aeronautics Limited specializes in the development of heavy lift unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for civilian and military uses. Located in Berkshire, our operations focus on in-house design and manufacturing, enabling us to control most aircraft components on-site and ensuring high standards and innovation throughout development.
About The Role:
As a Software Engineering Manager, reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead unmanned air systems development in the UK. Your responsibilities include overseeing software development and verification, guiding software engineering projects, and ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. You will also mentor your team to foster technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Security Clearance: Ability to hold Security Clearance; 5 years residence in the UK required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leading Software Development: Oversee design, implementation, and verification of software, ensuring safety and reliability.
2. Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage and develop a team of software engineers, establishing coding standards and documentation practices.
3. Project Coordination: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and development roadmaps.
4. Ensuring Compliance & Quality: Maintain adherence to safety regulations and industry standards through rigorous testing.
5. Continuous Improvement: Enhance development processes, tools, and workflows for better efficiency and software performance.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Proven leadership in software development, including embedded systems.
* Proficiency in C or C++, with experience in real-time embedded systems.
* Experience with embedded development tools (e.g., STM32) and environments (debuggers, emulators, compilers, KiCad).
* Experience with software requirements, design, verification, and validation.
* Knowledge of safety standards like DO-178C, MISRA.
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
* Familiarity with systems engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and Agile methodologies.
* Experience with hardware-software integration, microcontrollers, FPGA systems.
* Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, I2C).
* Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN).
Desired Skills and Experience:
* Knowledge of Ardupilot, signal processing, control systems.
* Experience with RF communication, Qt, Python.
* Understanding of safety-related engineering practices and flight control systems.
* Experience with HMI requirements.
