Main duties of the job
The main responsibility of the Cleaning Team is to provide a high-quality comprehensive cleaning service forthe Practice, which supports our Infection Control and Health & Safety responsibilities and obligations. Thisinvolves working to a plan and to a high standard, not just working quickly.

The relief cleaners role is to help cover planned holiday as well as sickness, so would suit someone in easyreach of the Practice and can be flexible on evenings. Should a routine position (working regular hours/daysper week) become available you could be considered for this.
About us
Cowes Medical Centre is a purpose built GP Surgery in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. There is a team of two GP partners and two salaried GPs.
The practice has a team of seven nurse practitioners, which includes a paediatric advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) and mental health practitioner and a paramedic. There are five practice nurses, three healthcare assistants and three phlebotomists. The practice is also able to offer patients the services of additional staff, including a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, a social prescriber, a wellbeing coach and a paramedic. The clinical team are supported a team of 40 non-clinical staff, including the practice manager, patient advisors, prescription clerks, administration, secretarial and cleaning staff.
The practice is open between 8am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Cleaning
Use colour-coded cleaning equipment and materials responsibly and properly. Work to the cleaningschedules for each room/area that you are responsible for, and that you have cleaned to the requiredstandards and frequencies:Use personal protection equipment (PPE) as requiredHigh dust remove cobwebs/dust from all horizontal/vertical areas including wall/ceiling lights,windows, blinds, pictures, clocks, ceilings, examination curtain railsVacuum carpetsVacuum hard floors/damp mop and buff using machine if applicableEmpty contents of waste bins into black or clear bin liner (depending on the contents in the bin), replacewaste bin liners, wipe clean all surfaces and remove rubbish to disposal pointClinical waste bins place contents of bin in yellow clinical waste bag and attach identification tag. Bagsshould not be filled more than full. Sealed bags should be placed in the locked container in the carparkDust/damp wipe walls, sills and internal window frames, radiators, ledges, skirting boards, stair edgings,table tops and work surfaces etc removing any marksTelephones disinfect handsets onlyPolish mirrorsDust office equipment excluding computer equipmentFurniture & fittings including fridges and portable medical equipment etc dust, damp wipe/disinfectand/or polish as appropriateDoor handles disinfectExamination couches replenish white and blue couch rollsPaper towels, liquid soap, toilet rolls replenish dispensersSinks, basins and drainers clean thoroughly including tapsWater dispensers disinfect tapsShower clean thoroughly ensuring that soap and debris is removedToilets disinfect cistern, seat (both sides) and lid (both sides) and flush button. Cleaning Administration
Report to your Team Leader or the Business Manager any hazards or equipment breakdowns/repairsMonitor cleaning stock supplies and request reorders in a timely wayUnpack cleaning deliveries and keep stock cupboards orderly and tidyOther DutiesTo undertake any mandatory trainingAssist temporary or new cleaning staffParticipate in training regarding Practice policies, health and safety and risk management including:C.O.S.H.H. regulations (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and Data Protection ActKeep completely confidential all information
Any other duties and responsibilities
As determined by your Team Leader or the Business Manager withinthe parameters of the role
Special Requirement: due to handling clinical waste you will be required to have an occupational HepatitisB vaccination and/or immunity tests
