The role
To support the delivery of high-quality education and care for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a primary school Resource Provision. The role focuses on meeting individual needs and promoting positive outcomes in learning, communication, behaviour, and independence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Support for Pupils
* Work one-to-one and in small groups with pupils with ASC, delivering adapted support to meet individual needs as identified in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Promote engagement, social interaction, and communication, using evidence-based strategies including TEACCH, Total communication approach and visual supports.
* Help pupils self-regulate emotions and behaviour using consistent and proactive approaches.
* Encourage independence in daily tasks, including learning, life skills, and self-care.
* Provide personal care where required, maintaining dignity and safeguarding.
Curriculum and Learning Support
* Assist with the implementation of individual learning programmes, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo
* support access to a broad and balanced curriculum adapted to the needs of the pupils, in line with the principles of inclusive education.
* Use specialist strategies to reduce barriers to learning, including sensory and communication interventions.
* Promote the development of functional and transferable skills.
Record Keeping and Assessment
* Contribute to regular monitoring and recording of pupil progress against EHCP outcomes.
* Support with observations, progress reports, and reviews.
* Participate in Annual Review processes by sharing relevant observations and supporting documentation.
Teamwork and Collaboration
* Work closely with class teachers, SENCo, therapists, and external agencies, following a multidisciplinary approach.
* Attend relevant staff training and participate in CPD focused on SEND practice and ASC-specific approaches.
* Contribute to a positive, collaborative school ethos aligned with safeguarding and equality policies.
Safeguarding and Welfare
* Uphold the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
* Maintain a safe and nurturing environment in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.
* Ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all pupils.
