ClinicalPractice Lead All Age First Response Service - Fixed Term and Secondment can be offered - (end date 22/03/2027) to cover Maternity leave. Job requires working night shifts and weekends.

We are looking for a Clinical Practice Lead who has a professionalqualification as a registered Mental Health Nurse, a mental health SocialWorker or a mental health Occupational Therapist to join the First ResponseService team based in Exeter. We areseeking to recruit an experienced, visionary and motivated individual to joinour mental health First Response Service. The team promotes a dynamic andinnovative way of working, triaging and responding to crisis referrals. Therole encompasses the NHS principle; right care, right time and right place. TheFirst Response Service triages mental health crisis calls and referrals,providing tele-coaching psychological interventions, support, guidance andsignposting. The service further delivers timely and responsive face to faceassessments where indicated.

Main duties of the job

This isan ideal post for either an experienced Senior Mental Health Practitionerwanting to professionally develop or a current clinical lead who is seeking achange of direction. In this important role you will use your extensiveclinical skills and experience as a mental health practitioner to lead on highquality care, developing and sustaining compassionate leadership. Usingevidence based practice and routine outcome measures you will use astrength-based approach to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.

Leadingon assessing and managing risk is a core part of this role, responding tourgent need. You will be required to work a 24/7 shift pattern to meet theneeds of the service. Supervision of more junior staff and trainees is expectedto be part of your role as you share your skills and knowledge with thosearound you. We will support you to develop the skills required to thrive inthis role and provide training with developmental support to pursue afulfilling career.

Thelocation

Your base will be in Exeter within WonfordHouse with the benefit of integration with other DPT services as well as theacute hospital.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

TheClinical Practice Lead will work with the First Response Service to provide 24hour urgent access to mental health services for people of all age, (Childrenand Young People, Adults or Older People) have been identified as being in amental health crisis.

The post holder will be responsible forensuring compliance with quality and safety standards within their assignedclinical pathways/teams. They will ensure that all individuals receiving careand treatment from the service do so in line with Trust strategic objectivesand are safeguarded from any harm.

Duties andResponsibilities

Communication and Working Relationship Skills

* To work collaboratively withinternal stakeholders
* Work closely with keyexternal stakeholders including, Police, Social Services provision,Housing, Voluntary and non-statutory agencies and a wider Health and SocialCare Community ensuring that peopleaged 18 and above, who use our services are signposted appropriatelythrough the care pathway.
* Act as a point of contact foragencies seeking information or wanting to refer
* Present information, some ofwhich may be contentious, to staff groups, service user groups, carersgroups and other stakeholders using a range of techniques and media.
* Co-ordinate and investigatecomplaints and clinical practice performance issues; taking action asnecessary ensuring that any clinical lessons learned are identified anddisseminated to teams.
* Ensure that any learning fromSUIs and RCAs is identified, disseminated and where necessary put intopractice.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* A professional mental health qualification to degree level or equivalent
* Post Graduate qualification relevant to specialism
* Evidence of commitment to life-long learning and continuing professional development
* Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competencies for Health Care staff


Knowledge

* Knowledge of key areas of professional mental health practice
* Specialist knowledge of mental health disorders
* Knowledge of clinical risk assessment
* Application of teaching theory into practice
* Ability to undertake bio-psycho-social assessment and formulating, robust care pathways
* Higher level communication skills, both written and oral
* Ability to engage challenging and/or acutely distressed patients in potentially hostile and/or antagonistic situations and use de-escalation techniques effectively
* Sufficient clinical knowledge to be able to make autonomous decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems and signpost accordingly
* Management and organisational skills that enable a number of complex activities and clinical work to be undertaken, revising and adjusting these according to the needs of individual patients and the service.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty
* Information Technology skills


Experience

* Substantial post qualifying work, including community mental health care (Children and Young People, Adults or Older People)
* Working with people presenting in mental health crisis
* Clinical leadership
* Evidence of working therapeutically with individuals
* Ability to interpret research and apply to practice
* Knowledge and utilization of counselling skills / cognitive behavioural skills, psychosocial interventions
* Experience in the management of clients with drug and alcohol problems/dual diagnosis
* Experience of carrying out assessments, identifying the appropriate care pathways and confirming diagnosis
* Other relevant post registration experience
* Understanding of research principles
* Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff
