Systems Manager

Hours: 37.5 per week; flexible working considered for all MKUH roles.

The Systems Manager is responsible for the support, configuration, optimisation and continual development of key clinical and corporate systems across the Trust, including the Ophthalmology Electronic Patient Record (OpenEyes). The role acts as the technical and service owner for designated systems, ensuring safe, effective and compliant operations and acting as the bridge between project delivery and business as usual.

Job Responsibilities

* Support, configure and continually develop the Ophthalmology EPR system (OpenEyes) across Milton Keynes University Hospital, plus other bespoke systems within the Surgical Division.
* Act as the technical and service owner for the Ophthalmology EPR system after go‑live, while supporting delivery activities; not overall programme ownership.
* Work closely with the Ophthalmology service, the Trust's IT helpdesk, wider support teams, and the external service supplier of OpenEyes.
* Be located on‑site between the main Hospital and Lloyds Court, with hybrid/home working anticipated (minimum 3 days on MKUH sites). Attend other hospital sites as required.
* Head a key member of the IT leadership team with a dotted line to the Surgical Division.


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Master's level education or equivalent experience.
* Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Relevant training in service delivery.


Experience

* Support and development of healthcare applications, both clinical and corporate.
* Working knowledge of financial processes.
* Proficiency with digital systems including Microsoft Office.
* Risk management and governance.
* Proven senior management/leadership role experience.
* Experience managing and motivating large teams.
* Leading change to improve performance/services in complex environments.
* Digital NHS experience in hospital and community systems configuration.
* Clinical system deployment and project experience in a clinical system setting.
* Experience interfacing with clinical applications such as OpenEyes, eCare.


Skills

* Configuration of NHS clinical information systems (e.g., eCare, OpenEyes).
* Use of health information for supporting clinical practice.
* Understanding of national and local standards and NHS data standards.
* Knowledge of Information Governance & Information Sharing Standards.
* Understanding of the current NHS agenda and healthcare policy.
* In‑depth knowledge of change management in a healthcare setting.
* Responsible management of electronic clinical record systems across the Trust.
* Resource planning and staff assignment to tasks, ensuring schedule completion.
* Technical advice and support to managers on systems management issues.
* Planning and collaborating on data quality across Trust boundaries.
* Understanding of provider‑commissioning relationships.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills with persuasion, influencing and negotiation.
