Clinical Nurse Specialist - Neuromuscular and Inherited White Matter

An exciting 12 month fixed term opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist has arisen within the Neurology Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Applications are invited for a fixed term Clinical Nurse Specialist to work with the Neuromuscular and Inherited White Matter Disorders Services. The paediatric Neurology department provides Secondary and Tertiary level services for Birmingham and the West Midlands Region as well as those with HSS NHSE designation. The department provides a number of specialist clinics/services including neuromuscular, neuro-metabolic, inherited white matter, epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, ketogenic diet, vagal nerve stimulator, neuro‑motor, neuro‑ophthalmology and demyelination. Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a designated Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service centre and a designated Paediatric Major Trauma Centre.
The department is well supported by colleagues who provide neuromuscular and neuro‑rehabilitation services, a paediatric neurophysiology department and consultants in paediatric neurophysiology, radiology department, child psychiatry and psychology services, and a full complement of allied health professionals, junior doctors and administrative staff.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting post where the Clinical Nurse Specialist can offer support, education and work autonomously to provide excellent patient care and work as part of the wider specialist Neurology teams. The nurse will be providing good clinical based nursing care for children with a variety of neurological and neuromuscular disorders.
The post will be based at the hospital, but will provide liaison and support to the Paediatric services, schools, hospices and other community settings to ensure patient pathways are followed and children, young people and families are receiving the highest quality care.
Person Specification
* Paediatric neuroscience nursing experience
* Band 6 experience
* RGN, RN Child
* Degree level educated or equivalent experience
* Mentorship, teaching and assessing qualification
* Experience of paediatric neuromuscular or inherited white matter disease
* Non medical prescriber
* Competence with NHS database systems
* Leadership and management qualification
