PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Studios’ Documentary Unit is seeking a Shooting Researcher, to join the team creating current affairs, special project and arts films for The One Show. This is a full time role, based in Salford, with an on site requirement (when not filming on location) of two days per week.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
The team are looking for somebody with strong self-shooting skills who works well alongside Producers / Directors filming interviews and GVs on second camera for fast turnaround, short form content.
The ideal candidate would be somebody who is happy to work on location across the UK, is an adaptable people person, used to working with a contributors and presenters and has strong technical and editorial understanding to help shape ideas into clear, impactful stories.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
You’ll work closely with four Producers/Directors on multiple shoots across the UK, filming second camera interviews and GVs (predominantly using Sony FX6 cameras), sourcing and operating kit, and sharing driving duties. You’ll contribute visual flair through GVs, cutaways and occasional sequences, deliver accurate ingest logs for post production, and source archive via BBC systems and external suppliers, with a strong understanding of archive clearing and tracking.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The team are looking for someone who:
* Is confident shooting second camera/GVs on Sony FX6s and providing technical support as needed.
* Can operate additional kit including GoPros, Osmos, gimbals, lighting and sound.
* Has experience filming on location and working confidently with contributors, presenters and reporters.
* Is used to fast turnaround short form content and understands BBC editorial guidelines.
* Can back up rushes, source archive via BBC systems, external suppliers and UGC, and manage release forms on location.
* Is a confident and experienced driver.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Experienced working on location and confident engaging contributors from all backgrounds.
* A strong people person, able to put contributors at ease in their homes and on shoots.
* Highly skilled technically, proactive in supporting self shooting directors to work efficiently.
* Confident shooting second camera to a broadcast standard suitable for BBC One.
* Comfortable using new and emerging technologies to enhance storytelling.
* A natural problem solver with a practical, solutions focused approach.
DESIRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Licensed drone operator
