About the Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join the Highways team on the M3 – Junction 9 Project located in Winchester, Hampshire. The Advisor will provide an effective in‑house health and safety advisory and management service, ensuring the project meets all statutory safety and environmental responsibilities and promoting a culture of continual safety behavioural improvement.


Responsibilities

* Provide visible active support and advice to the contract.
* Carry out site inspections and audit Health and Safety against the Health & Safety Management System, ensuring compliance and recommending corrective actions.
* Support and promote the Zero Harm Journey Plan.
* Liaise with Environmental and Quality auditors to integrate H&S with environmental compliance and assurance.
* Manage external audits, provide corrective actions and closeout audit findings.
* Support the adoption and implementation of the Balfour Beatty BMS requirements.
* Deliver Health and Safety inductions, training and presentations, including Drugs & Alcohol testing.
* Actively encourage staff and subcontractors to behave safely.
* Assist in the investigation, reporting and recommendations on accidents and incidents.
* Work with the HSW Manager to identify the Health and Safety competencies/certifications required of all staff and ensure delivery and maintenance.
* Review and advise on Method Statements and Risk Assessments from both internal and external sources.
* Perform other functional Health and Safety duties as specified by the HSES Manager to meet project requirements.


Essential Qualifications

* NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent in safety management, or evidence of working towards relevant qualifications.
* Experience in a health and safety role, preferably in highway/major projects or construction.
* Sound technical Health and Safety knowledge.
* Understanding of HSE Management Systems.
* Ability to undertake causal analysis of accidents and incidents.
* Capability to work independently and within Department and project teams.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong presentation skills.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
* Experience with staff motivation to ensure safe and responsible behaviour.
* Experience in delivering training at all staff levels.
* Good teamwork skills.
* Full UK driving licence.


Desirable Qualifications

* Some environment experience.
* CMIOSH certification.
* Accident/incident investigation training.
* Train the trainer qualifications.
