Job Description

My client are a leading law firm with offices across the East Midlands. They are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their Birmingham Office.

Key Responsibilities:

Defended & Disputed Debt Matters
1. Manage a caseload of disputed and defended debt cases from start to finish.
2. Review evidence, prepare legal documents, and assess the strength of cases.
3. Draft court documents such as defences, witness statements, applications, consent orders, and pre-action correspondence.
4. Communicate with clients to advise on case strategy, settlement options, and evidence required.
5. Prepare cases for hearings, mediation, and settlement discussions.
Insolvency
6. Handle both individual and company insolvency matters, including bankruptcy petitions, winding-up petitions, and statutory demands.
7. Work with insolvency practitioners, official receivers, courts, and clients.
8. Monitor deadlines and ensure compliance with insolvency laws and procedures.
9. Advise clients on how insolvency may impact debt recovery and enforcement.
Enforcement
10. Advise clients on the best enforcement options after judgment, considering cost, risk, and the debtor's situation.
11. Prepare and submit applications for enforcement actions, including warrants, writs of control, attachment of earnings, charging orders, third party debt orders, and court questioning orders.
12. Liaise with enforcement officers, bailiffs, and external agencies.
13. Investigate debtor assets, employment, and financial position to support enforcement decisions.
14. Provide clear written advice on likely outcomes, risks, timelines, and costs.
15. Track progress of enforcement actions and respond to any issues or queries.
16. Identify when enforcement is unlikely to succeed and suggest alternative solutions.
Compliance
17. Follow all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including Civil Procedure Rules and Insolvency legislation.
18. Keep accurate and up-to-date records on case management systems.
Business Development & Client Engagement
19. Support business development by attending events, client meetings, and networking opportunities.
20. Assist with event preparation and follow-up actions.
21. Contribute to maintaining and developing client relationships and new business opportunities.
22. Provide general support to the wider team as needed.
