Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low, and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation to meet safe, reliable and sustainable asset objectives and contribute to net zero commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for high and low voltage power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures, and monitoring sites.
* Deliver and maintain competency and skill guidance for all employees managing electrical systems.
* Hold a national incident response role, including out‑of‑hours response as required.
Experience and Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
