CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract/Attachment, Full-time until 31 March 2026
DEPARTMENT: BBC Nations, BBC South West Investigations
LOCATION: Plymouth/Truro or Channel Islands.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 38100 - 48100 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The BBC's West and South West Investigation team is responsible for delivering high-impact stories for online, TV, radio, sounds and socials. The team is designed to be self-supporting but works closer with the wider newsroom operation, collaborating with news and planning colleagues, technical teams and other investigation units across the BBC. Guided by the principles of public interest journalism, the investigations teams aim to shine a light on key issues for our communities and reveal the truth about the stories that matter to our audience. Based in Plymouth/Truro or the Channel Islands, this role specifically aims to boost the team's coverage from the Channel Islands as well as supporting the wider South West team.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
* To generate, research and develop multi-platform stories from the Channel Islands, as well as Devon and Cornwall which resonate with audiences in and beyond the region.
* To ensure stories are produced to the highest standard for all platforms, including subbing some online content.
* Working under the guidance of the SJTM, to find solutions to logistical and editorial challenges - which, depending on base, may include. providing production support remotely to local reporters.
* To work effectively in a team and support the wider unit to deliver original stories from idea to transmission.
* To navigate challenging and complex stories impartially and always work within BBC editorial guidelines.
* As well as production, this role will include some on air reporting.
* Some travel may be required.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* We are looking for someone with extremely strong editorial skills, experience of delivering multi-platform stories and developing ideas into high-quality investigations. You will have initiative, excellent editorial judgement and organisational skills and proudly "own" stories, communicating well to all outlets.
* You will be passionate about reaching new audiences and will have a detailed understanding of formats across all platforms.
* Digital skills and subbing experience are important, as is experience of writing, producing and reporting for television and radio.
* This is a logistically complex role, working with individuals across different bases and you will need to be full of enthusiasm for working with different teams to bring the best journalism to our audiences.
* Detailed knowledge of the BBC's editorial and social media guidelines and experience of complex stories is essential.
* Open-source research and data journalism skills would be desirable.
