About the Role We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to play a key role in designing, building, and operating the systems that power Pikl’s insurance products and partner integrations, using our modern TypeScript-based stack. You will work deeply within a Next.js, React, Express, TypeScript, MySQL, and AWS environment, taking ownership of major services and features while helping shape how we build and scale our platform over time. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement backend services and APIs in Express and TypeScript. Build reliable, maintainable, and well-structured services that integrate cleanly with our broader platform. Contribute to and influence our Next.js and React applications. Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure a cohesive full-stack experience. Own significant technical components end to end. From data modeling in MySQL to deployment on AWS, you will be accountable for quality and long-term maintainability. Make thoughtful technical decisions within our stack. Help define patterns for service structure, state management, data access, and testing. Review and improve system design. Provide guidance on performance, reliability, and scalability in a cloud-based environment. Mentor other engineers. Support the growth of mid-level and junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions. About You: Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and backend development. Ideally with Express or a similar Node.js framework. Experience designing and building APIs and services that use relational databases. Comfort working with MySQL, schema design, and query performance. Familiarity with AWS. Experience working with services such as EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, or similar is preferred. Experience working in a modern JavaScript/TypeScript frontend environment. Familiarity with React or Next.js is a strong plus. Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions. You can work effectively with product and non-technical stakeholders. Bonus Points For: Experience building or scaling production Next.js applications. Background in integrations with external platforms or carrier systems. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
