Bath
University Of Bath
Research associate
£25,000 - £35,000 a year
Posted: 16 November
Offer description

We have an exciting opportunity in the Centre for Health, and Injury and Illness Prevention in Sport for someone with a passion for injury prevention who is looking to use their data skills to have an impact on rugby union policy and practice.

In this 24-month project, you will integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., head kinematics from mouthguards with integrated sensors, game events from match analysis, concussion data from injury surveillance) to develop models to describe head impacts in rugby union players in the highest women's and men's leagues in England.

The project is supported by the Rugby Football Union in partnership with Prem Rugby and Premiership Women's Rugby.

You will have opportunities to engage with policy-makers and end-users (e.g., coaches and players) to develop knowledge translation skills and to have real-world impact on how rugby union players train and play.

Additional information

This is a part time (21.9 hours, 0.6 FTE) position.

As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

A PhD is an essential requirement for this role. We would also like someone with expertise in analysing data from instrumented mouthguards.

A detailed knowledge of rugby, and the professional rugby landscape in England, is key to this role.
