Our client is a highly innovative and diverse grower of a wide range of salad and speciality vegetable crops based in the garden of England in Kent. Due to their on-going development, they are now on the hunt for an ambitious and capable Trainee Farm Manager to join their growing team.

The Farm Management Trainee is specifically accountable to The Farm Manager for:

1. Carrying out as many daily tasks in the business as possible to enhance their knowledge of fresh produce production methods in order for them to become an effective manager within Watts Farms business.
2. To develop key skills such as people, soil, crop and time management through on job training.
3. Providing additional management in areas which require focus.
4. Developing their knowledge through background reading and research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In respect of the above, a Farm Management Trainee is specifically responsible for:

1] Undertaking and or supervising such ground work, fertilisation, drilling / planting, irrigation or crop protection practices (and as may be advised by the Farm Manager) as may be necessary, or appropriate, to grow crops to the annual programme(s).

2] Supervising and managing harvest teams, weeding gangs and any other labour absorbing areas which will need close attention to keep costs minimal and quality high.

3] Growing and managing a small area of trials, writing reports regarding the seed densities, variety description and crop stands/emergence.

4] The safe use and condition of Plant and Equipment on the Farm, and report any improper use to the Farm Manager.

5] Monitor all costs as requested by the Farm Manager and learn methods of reducing these in collaboration with the Farm Manager.

6] Monitor yields where requested and use this information to develop availability skills.

7] Liaison with Technical Manager regarding internal and external Technical Audits

8] Carry out any office work required. To include traceability recording and cost monitoring.

9] Expose themselves to as many areas of the business, as many crops and operations as possible to develop their learning.

10] The Trainee will also need to undertake any other tasks which are of benefit to the business or themselves, such as covering for staff not at work and attending training days.

11] They will be required to keep a diary of what they have learnt for reference and to aid their personal development.
