The Nature and Carbon Portfolio Manager sits at the heart of our sustainability strategy, helping us scale nature-based carbon removal projects that not only benefit the planet but also support human health. Reporting to the Head of Climate and Nature, you’ll manage the design and delivery of a new programme to scale nature-based carbon removal projects worldwide. Beyond this, you will also be supporting our broader nature strategy and agenda across the organisation.
This role is central to our ambition to create environmental impact while exploring how these projects can also improve human health. You’ll help shape strategy, manage external advisors, and work closely with stakeholders across Bupa’s Market Units and Group Functions to align the programme with our global and local goals—including brand, commercial and reputation objectives.
You’ll also support education and capability building across the organisation, and as our nature strategy evolves, you’ll provide subject matter expertise to help guide its future direction. You’ll be part of a team that’s brave, caring and responsible—making health happen for people and the planet.
How you'll help us make health happen
1. Shape strategy and define key milestones for our carbon credit portfolio
2. Develop criteria for high-integrity carbon credits that benefit both people and planet
3. Manage project origination, due diligence, and selection processes
4. Oversee implementation, risk management, and budget control
5. Support commercial negotiations with subject matter expertise
6. Drive internal education and capability building around nature-based solutions
7. Represent Bupa externally at industry forums and events
8. Advocate for health benefit measurement across the carbon credit market
Skills & experience needed for this role:
9. Extensive experience buying/selling nature-based carbon credits or advising on them
10. Working knowledge of carbon market risks and mitigation strategies
11. Strong analytical skills and confident with Excel/modelling of carbon credit projects and portfolios
12. A broader knowledge of corporate nature strategy/TNFD, would be beneficial.
13. Project management expertise and strong stakeholder engagement skills
14. Effective working and communicating with individuals all levels across geographies with technical and non-technical audiences as well as external parties and third parties.
15. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage workload and balance priorities across shifting agenda.
