Career Opportunity: Project Design Manager
Are you looking for a new challenge where your engineering experience, management skills, value engineering aptitude, and a keen eye for detail will be fully valued and developed?
Due to increased workload, we are seeking a permanent Works Project Design Manager to join a dynamic, innovative, and focused team. The role involves managing an increased Design & Build workload from key clients, including the Environment Agency, Highways, Local Authorities, and private clients.
The successful candidate will ideally be based at our head office or a regional office, depending on convenience. The standard working week is 40 hours with a hybrid arrangement—2 days at home. Travel to meetings with designers, clients, and sites will be required.
Main Duties include:
1. Proactively managing a design phase team, which may include consultants and/or specialist designers.
2. Leading meetings with clients, including presenting and discussing design ideas and solutions.
3. Preparing design documents, briefs, reports, and management plans.
4. Developing and managing design programmes.
5. Reviewing design documents for compliance, advising on buildability and value engineering opportunities.
We’re looking for someone with:
* Extensive experience in highways, structures, infrastructure, or flood alleviation works.
* A civil engineering academic background and site experience to understand design principles and construction processes.
* Strong collaborative, communication, and team-building skills.
* Proficiency with programming software.
* Awareness of applicable CDM Regulations.
* Understanding of design processes, procedures, guidance, codes, and standards.
* Knowledge of common construction specifications.
* Soft management skills to motivate designers to deliver timely, accurate solutions.
