This role involves managing, and may direct, the implementation and delivery of a range of risk services to support commissions and to provide line management leadership and guidance for others within the PMO and planning centre of excellence and assigned hub as required.
This position requires travelling 2-3 days per week between our client's office in Southampton, Hampshire, and requires BPSS security clearance. We are looking for risk managers who have worked on large scale/complex construction infrastructure projects in a risk role.
You'll be responsible for:
* Accountable for the risk management performance of assigned commission(s).
* Creating/designing effective risk management framework(s)/strategy(s) on assigned commission(s).
* Managing and directing clients, consultants, contractors, project team on all risk management matters.
* Partnering with clients to meet their expectations and building strong professional relationships.
* Providing expert advice and support to project/programme teams in the administration of the risk process, especially regarding risks to key project objectives and escalation of risks.
* Facilitating and driving the delivery of risk workshops.
* Working with project managers to recognize opportunities and mitigations to minimize risk exposure.
* Ensuring risk mitigation action plans are developed, risk and action owners are appointed, and project plans are updated accordingly and monitored.
* Managing and directing the delivery of project/programme quantitative risk analysis (cost and time).
* Commenting on the adequacy of contingency as part of the regular reporting cycle as required.
* Developing and delivering monthly risk reports, externally to the client and internally to the project team.
* Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Mace control centre, client requirements, and prevailing legislation.
* Providing line management to team and other project/programme members.
* Mentoring and assisting the personal and career development of junior risk team members.
* Integrating risk with PMO and planning disciplines.
* Supporting the HUB risk lead with resourcing and recruitment for the assigned commission.
* Working collaboratively towards the net zero carbon transition and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions during project delivery.
Qualifications include a relevant university degree (e.g., risk management, engineering) or equivalent, and Chartered (or equivalent) membership of a professional institution such as the Association of Project Managers or Institute of Risk Management.
Experience required includes effective risk leadership on complex construction projects, setting up risk management frameworks, and knowledge of risk tools/software (e.g., Active Risk Manager, RiskHive, @risk, Primavera Risk Analyzer). A minimum of 5 years of experience delivering project risk management services on major construction projects is expected.
Additional skills include strong interpersonal skills, the ability to influence, articulate complex ideas to non-technical audiences, manage multiple priorities under pressure, negotiate with stakeholders, and contribute to high-performing teams.
