Senior Regulatory Planning Lead – Nuclear Infrastructure

Role Overview
Our client, a newly established government arm’s length body dedicated to accelerating the UK’s nuclear energy development, is seeking a Senior Regulatory Planning Lead. This strategic role will shape and drive the planning consent strategies for a portfolio of nuclear infrastructure projects, supporting the successful design, development, and operation of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and execution of planning strategies across multiple nuclear projects
* Act as the internal expert on planning legislation and regulatory processes
* Engage with central and local government, regulators, and statutory consultees to support planning and permitting activities
* Provide expert advice on Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) and Development Consent Order (DCO) processes
* Ensure compliance with the Planning Act 2008 and national policy frameworks
* Oversee planning-related contracts, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality targets
* Collaborate across internal teams, including marine, transport, and engineering functions, to deliver integrated regulatory planning
Candidate Profile
* Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a relevant technical field
* Extensive experience in delivering planning consents for major UK infrastructure projects (£500m+)
* In-depth knowledge of TCPA, DCO, Planning Act 2008, and associated guidance and national policy statements
* Proven stakeholder engagement and policy influence capabilities
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
* A collaborative, adaptable approach suited to dynamic and evolving project environments
