Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is a large NHS Trust delivering integrated health and social care across 10 hospitals and community services. The Theatre Practitioner role is based at Trafford General Hospital, Phase 2 Theatre, with the closing date for applications on 08 October 2025.
About the role
Trafford Elective Surgical Hub (TESH) is a newly established service aiming to increase surgical capacity while embracing the HLP programme to help reduce the backlog of patients awaiting planning operations. The hub offers a variety of specialities including General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, ENT, Adult and Paediatric Dentistry, Urology, Breast, Plastics, Vascular Access, Gender Affirmation Surgery, and Robotic surgeries. There are nine theatres in total, in three areas with dedicated recovery areas. Two more theatres are under construction. The unit is linked with Ward 12 (surgical admission) and provides a mix of day case and inpatient care.
Main duties of the job
* Be responsible for the assessment and delivery of care for the perioperative patient, implementing and continually evaluating nursing care to optimise outcomes.
* Participate in teaching/supervision of junior staff and in teaching students on basic and post-basic courses.
* Maintain personal and professional development; participate in effective utilization of resources.
* Act in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Professional Code of Conduct.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* Qualification in O.D.P. or RGN
Experience
* Recent experience of working in a theatre environment
* Previous experience in other clinical areas
* Experience of care giving in either acute or community settings
Knowledge
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
* Supports and contributes to teamwork and collaborative approaches
* Problem solving; able to analyse and resolve issues independently
* Decision making within role limits; awareness of own boundaries
* Ability to engage with patients/children and families and MDTs
