Freight Co-ordinator
Location: Stromness, Orkney, KW16 3BH
Salary: £32,755 plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Full time 35 hours per week – flexibility required to support a 24/7 operational service and work 1 in 3 weekends.

As a Freight Co-ordinator in our Transport team, you’ll play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient and high-quality freight service across the NorthLink Ferries contract. You’ll help ensure the smooth movement of goods between the Scottish mainland and the Northern Isles, supporting communities that rely on this essential lifeline service.
This is a dynamic, operational role where your coordination skills, leadership capability and ability to respond to changing demand will have a direct impact. You’ll work closely with colleagues, customers and partners to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
What you’ll do as a Freight Co-ordinator
You’ll be entrusted to:
* Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of freight operations across multiple ports and locations.
* Coordinate freight schedules, adapting plans to meet demand, operational needs and weather disruption.
* Lead and support frontline teams and subcontractors to ensure high levels of performance and productivity.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and operational partners.
* Monitor and prioritise freight bookings, ensuring timely and efficient allocation of resources.
* Analyse operational performance and market trends to support planning and continuous improvement.
* Ensure compliance with safety, quality and contractual standards, including ISO‑aligned processes.
* Support business continuity, risk management and emergency response activities.
* Oversee equipment, facilities and supplier performance across operational sites.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
* Experience in a transport, logistics or operational coordination environment highly desirable; alternatively previous experience working within customer service background is essential.
* Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
* A proactive mindset with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.
* Experience using Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel (Power BI desirable).
* A flexible and resilient approach, suited to a fast‑paced, 24/7 operational environment.
