About the Employer
Support worker/carer required for a young non‑verbal man with additional needs during school holidays and occasional other times. The role includes supporting him both at home and out in the community, helping him access activities he enjoys, and providing personal care support as he is double incontinent.
Responsibilities
* Supporting with outings and activities
* Preparing/providing food and drinks
* Personal care support
* Helping maintain a safe, calm and enjoyable environment
* Using communication methods including Makaton and PECS
* Supporting and/or prompting with personal care (toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed)
* Supporting and/or prompting with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks
* Develop a good and trusting one‑to‑one working relationship
* Perform other duties as reasonably required
Ideal Candidate
* Be caring, patient, and reliable
* Have experience supporting people with additional needs/autism/non‑verbal communication
* Have an understanding of Makaton and PECS
* Be comfortable around dogs
* Ideally have their own car and full driving licence
* Honest, reliable, trustworthy, and punctual
* Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibition of social media use in relation to the job role
* Be able to work on own initiative and follow instructions accurately
* Be patient, supportive, and caring
* Have good listening skills and be able to provide non‑judgemental emotional support
* Be empathetic
* Be self‑motivated with willingness to get involved
Transport Requirement
Car driver and car owner – must have business insurance.
Scheduling
Dates and time are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
Other Important Information
You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and/or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
