Salary and Benefits

Salary £31,930 – £36,878 per annum (Pro‑Rata) DOE and Qualifications with a market supplement of up to £3,000 for successful candidates. 45 days annual leave (Pro‑Rata) plus bank holidays, people’s pension, retail and leisure discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, access to college courses.


Hours and Contract

29.6 hours per week – 52 weeks per year. Permanent – Part Time.


About the role

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in English to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.


Responsibilities

* Teaching & Assessment – Deliver high‑quality English teaching across various levels, prepare schemes of work, assess student progress, and ensure awarding body standards are met.
* Student Support & Progression – Guide students through tutorials and feedback, helping them achieve their potential and progress academically and vocally.
* Curriculum Development – Contribute to course innovation, develop engaging learning materials, and support the creation of new programmes aligned with strategic priorities.
* Quality & Administration – Maintain accurate records, meet funding and quality assurance requirements, and participate in course reviews, team meetings, and student feedback activities.
* College Engagement & Compliance – Support marketing events, uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety standards, and contribute to the wider college strategy and student experience.


About you

* Qualifications & Subject Expertise – Relevant degree or Level 5 qualification in English, Certificate in Education/PGCE (or willingness to achieve), and GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade A‑C).
* Teaching Experience & Knowledge – Recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English, strong classroom management, and up‑to‑date knowledge of subject developments and awarding body standards.
* Communication & Collaboration – Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; able to build positive relationships across the College and contribute effectively to team goals.
* Organisation & Administration – Highly organised with strong planning skills, confident in using Microsoft Office, and able to complete administrative tasks accurately and on time.
* Professionalism & Values – Committed to safeguarding, EDI, continuous development, and promoting the College's values and reputation; flexible and willing to work across locations with a valid driving licence.

About Shuttleworth College

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade. It is a specialist land‑based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.
