Responsibilities
An opportunity has arisen within the Family and Friends Fostering Team in Nottinghamshire Countywide Fostering Service. The role will primarily focus on undertaking fostering and special guardianship assessments for Kinship Carers who are caring for children who are looked after by the local authority. You will need to develop positive working relationships with Kinship Carers to support them to engage in and progress assessments and to support them to understand the role of Kinship Carer and the responsibilities that come with this. You will play a crucial role in ensuring vulnerable looked after children are receiving safe care from family members as well as being available to advise, inspire, support, and challenge carers to ensure they are meeting the needs of the children they are responsible for.
Carers and children will also rely on you to create supportive and nurturing relationships, so you will need to show that you’ve had previous social work experience, with a record of working with young people who have a history of trauma.
You will need to develop positive working relationship with professionals involved with our looked after children and have good communication skills since you will be working in a highly collaborative environment. The role of the supervising social worker is to ensure our children and young people are safe and secure, that they are well looked after, and that our high standards are consistently maintained.
Our Kinship Carers can live all over the country and so you must be available to travel nationwide if needed.
It is possible that you may also be asked to complete assessments for mainstream foster carers and so a willingness to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the service is essential.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Previous social work experience, with a record of working with young people who have a history of trauma.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
* Willingness to travel nationwide and to complete assessments for mainstream foster carers.
* Willingness to support and challenge carers to ensure they meet the responsibilities of kinship caring.
