Anexciting opportunity has arisen to join and expand further our dynamic andwell-respected acute medicine team here at Barnsley Hospital. The post is available at Specialty Doctoror StR 3+ level who have an interest in Acute Medicine.
This is a substantive post tosupport management of patients within the Acute Medical Unit. The postholder will be supervised by a namedConsultant with adequate administration time allocated. The role includes assisting the Consultant onthe ward rounds, acute follow up and ambulatory clinics. The appointed Doctor will have theopportunity to show personal initiative in the running of services forassessment of ambulatory care patients.
The postholder will be supervisedby an acute or on call Consultant Physician and will be encouraged toparticipate in the postgraduate education programme, audit and research andwill also be allowed time and funding for study leave according to the Trustpolicy. Continuing ProfessionalDevelopment is encouraged for Specialty Doctors.

Main duties of the job
Thepostholder will be involved in the care of new patient arrivals to the AcuteMedical Unit (AMU). Review patients onthe Short Stay Unit (SSU) and see new patients referred from ED or GP inMedical SDEC.
Helpthe acute/general medical take and support the on-call Registrar.
Seeksenior advice where needed and supervise the FY1/2 & CTs.
Beinvolved in writing discharge summaries and communicating with GPs on anyfollow up investigations (admin time provided).
Toprovide, with consultant colleagues, an effective emergency medicine service tothe people of Barnsley; to work closely with the emergency medicine team toprovide a high-quality service.
To advise clinical colleagues on matters within your sphereof expertise;
To liaise with other health care organisations, socialservices, general practitioners, voluntary organisations etc;
To liaise with the other medical clusters regardingtreatment protocols for all specialties, including those based in thecommunity;
To competently perform procedures, teach and supervisejunior team members to do procedures.

* Experience of the acutely ill patient (AMU).
* Ability to perform LP/pleural aspiration.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Fully registered with the GMC with license to practice.
* ALS
* MRCP Part 1
* MCEM
