Project Engineer – 9-Month Contract
BESS Project. Scottish Highlands. Start January 2026
Contract Scotland is recruiting an experienced Project Engineer for a 9-month contract supporting the construction and delivery of a 50MW / 100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Scottish Highlands.
This is a high-profile renewable energy infrastructure project, critical to grid stability and the UK’s net-zero ambitions. The role is site-based and delivery-focused, offering autonomy and responsibility during a key phase of construction and commissioning.
As the on-site Project Engineer, you will take ownership of day-to-day construction delivery, acting as the main interface between client, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. Your focus will be safe, efficient, and compliant delivery to programme and budget.
Duties and responsibilities
Lead site activities with full accountability for HSE compliance
Act as principal on-site contact for client and supply chain
Manage subcontractors, progress, quality, and cost control
Coordinate logistics, materials, and plant
Maintain programme updates and accurate progress reporting
Oversee QA, inspections, testing, snagging, and handover documentation
Chair site meetings and produce concise management reports
Resolve technical and delivery issues pragmatically and efficiently
About You
Background in civil, electrical, mechanical engineering, or construction
Proven experience delivering engineering or energy projects on site
Valid CSCS card
Strong knowledge of H&S and CDM regulations
Confident using MS Project and Microsoft Office
Organised, commercially aware, and delivery-driven
Clear communicator with the ability to manage stakeholders effectively
Desirable
Experience in renewables, BESS, CHP, or power infrastructure
IOSH or SMSTS
Engineering qualification (Degree / HND / HNC)
