Accommodation Officer – Temporary Accommodation

Rate: £22.59 per hour (LTD)
We are currently working on behalf of a local authority client who is seeking an experienced Accommodation Officer to join their Housing Needs / Temporary Accommodation team on a six-month temporary contract.
This is a frontline housing management role responsible for managing a portfolio of temporary accommodation and Private Sector Leased (PSL) properties, ensuring properties are safe, compliant, and suitable for homeless households placed under statutory duties.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a patch of temporary accommodation and PSL properties, including voids, lettings and tenancy management
Carry out regular inspections to ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and housing standards
Monitor occupation, prevent unauthorised use, and manage vacation and repossession processes
Liaise with landlords, managing agents and accommodation providers to ensure contractual compliance
Handle complex casework including tenancy breaches, ASB issues, complaints and enforcement matters
Support households in temporary accommodation to explore alternative housing and move-on options
Deliver safeguarding interventions and make referrals to external agencies where required
Complete sign-ups, tenancy audits, welfare checks and both scheduled and unannounced visits
Work closely with internal teams including ASB, Enforcement, Environmental Health and Legal Services
Identify and respond to fraud, misuse of accommodation and tenancy failure risks
Assist with disrepair and compensation claims, providing documentation and statements as required
Maintain accurate case records and provide high standards of written and verbal communicationEssential Experience & Skills
Experience working in a customer-facing housing or homelessness service
Proven experience managing temporary accommodation or similar housing stock
Strong casework skills with vulnerable households and complex needs
Knowledge of homelessness legislation, tenancy management and housing standards
Experience of safeguarding and multi-agency working
Ability to manage conflict and work with customers in stressful situations
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)Desirable
