* Manage day to day ward staffing to ensure effective use of resources (including prudent use of bank and agency staff).
* Lead a team of nurses, ensure annual appraisals (with intervening reviews) and personal development plans (PDPs); report issues of poor conduct or performance to the sister / charge nurse and assist in management according to Trust policies.
* Help maintain a safe and acceptable environment for patients, visitors, students and staff; report and act on hazards, incidents, faulty equipment or inadequate cleaning.
* Assist the senior sister to collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner as requested by the directorate and trust management teams (e.g., dependency studies, manpower, audits).
* Participate in meetings and project work as identified and delegated by the senior sister or clinical nurse professional.

Clinical/Professional Role

* Act as a role model of expert clinical practice in the specialty.

* Assist with the organisation of and participation in educational activities (e.g., teaching programmes) within the clinical area.

Professional Development

* Participate in own Individual Performance Review and develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) in liaison with the sister / charge nurse.
