In House Paralegal
Glasgow (Hybrid Working)

This is an exciting in-house paralegal role, forming part of a small dedicated legal team servicing the needs of the UK business. The role reports to Senior Legal Counsel and ultimately General Counsel for the UK (Chief Legal Officer). The role is extremely varied and requires the individual to assist with all manner of legal tasks across a full spectrum of matters, whilst working in a dynamic, growing, exciting and fast paced environment.
As a growing business, this role will be dynamic and flexible, with what are likely to be changing responsibilities and priorities as the business develops, however, the primary focus of the role will be:
- Acting as a key point of contact for standard contract drafting, review and negotiation across the business, including NDAs, MSAs, supplier and customer contracts, and managing the contracts lifecycle and central contracts register.
- Supporting the legal team in providing accurate, relevant and timely advice on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sector.
- Assisting with contract management across the business which will include reviews, audits, enforcement and variations.
- Leading day-to-day corporate governance, including board and shareholder resolutions and oversight of external company secretarial providers.
- Managing client, counterparty and supplier KYC and onboarding requests, including responding to third-party due diligence questionnaires and maintaining KYC records.
- Supporting the annual insurance renewal process and day-to-day insurance administration, including liaising with brokers, maintaining the insurance register, and assisting with claims notifications.
- Monitoring legal, regulatory and policy developments relevant to the energy sector and producing regular updates and briefings for the business.
- Supporting business-wide compliance activities, with a particular focus on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and UK GDPR / Data Protection – including maintaining policies, supporting DPIAs, handling data subject requests and assisting with AML checks.
- Taking ownership of legal team administration, including matter management, document and knowledge management, diary and meeting coordination, and maintenance of legal team trackers and reports.
- Assisting with the legal team budget and financial administration, including tracking external counsel spend, processing invoices and purchase orders, and supporting quarterly budget reporting.
- Supporting the legal team to update and implement company policies and procedures.
- Being accountable for (with the wider legal team) legal, compliance and risk management and promoting best practice of the same throughout the company.
- Liaising with senior members of staff and presenting to senior members of staff.
- Ensuring that contracts are properly signed and executed.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Demonstrable experience in a comparable in-house or law firm paralegal role, with strong contracts experience essential.
- Exposure to the energy, infrastructure or another regulated industry is desirable.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent IT skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong legal research skills.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to provide administrative support to the legal team.
- Confident managing competing priorities across governance, compliance and contracts workstreams.
- Comfortable handling confidential information and engaging with senior stakeholders.
- Commercially minded with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of individuals across a business.
- Ability to adapt quickly to constantly changing circumstances and to enjoy, and thrive, in a changing environment.
- Demonstrable ability to "learn on the job" and tackle new and exciting challenges with vigour, whilst being able to "know what you don’t know" and seek specialist help appropriately.
