We’re currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker to join Oakburn Ward, our inpatient unit supporting working-age men experiencing acute mental health challenges.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior Health Care Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care for service users. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, your responsibilities will include:
7. Supporting care delivery: Assist in the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of person-centred care for individuals experiencing mental illness, including those presenting with challenging behaviours.
8. Clinical support: Provide direct clinical care as delegated by registered staff, ensuring best practices are followed and care is delivered safely.
9. Patient safety and experience: Promote a safe, respectful, and dignified environment for all patients, families, and staff, in line with the Trust's values of We Care, We Listen, We Deliver.
10. Ward resources: Help maintain appropriate stock levels of clinical and non-clinical supplies on the ward.
11. Recovery-focused care: Support patients on their journey to recovery by encouraging independence, engagement, and empowerment.
12. Team support and development: Act as a positive role model for junior staff, providing guidance and supporting their development within the ward environment.

Essential criteria
13. GCSE Maths and English
14. QCF Level 2 Diploma in Care or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
15. QCF Level 3 Diploma, Certificate or Award in Care or equivalent.
Experience
Essential criteria
16. Experience of working with adults of working age with mental health needs or working with offenders / patients with challenging behaviour.
17. Effective patient care skills.
18. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
19. Caring responsible approach towards mental illness, tolerant, reliable, enthusiastic and adaptable.
20. Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness and remain calm in highly charged situations
Desirable criteria
21. Experience of facilitating therapeutic activities with patients, either in groups or individually.
