Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit Technician

Shift Patterns
* Days: 06:00 – 14:00
* Twilight: 14:00 – 22:00
* Nights: 22:00 – 06:00
* Saturday: 08:00 – 16:00 or 12:00 – 20:00
* Sunday: Day shift – hours TBA or 22:00 – 06:00 as part of one night shift rota
* Permanent weekends with back‑fill day off during the week
* On‑call and bank holiday working on rota are essential
Pay Scale
Band 2 plus enhancement pay after 20:00 to 06:00 as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions. Weekends are also at an enhanced rate.
Responsibilities
* Supply and maintain surgical instruments used in surgical and medical procedures.
* Check instruments into the department after use, clean, disinfect, package, sterilise and deliver back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
* Read small lettering on instruments and follow written instructions.
* Perform daily computer duties using a PC.
* Maintain high standards, ensure patient safety and deliver high‑quality work to tight deadlines.
* Participate in short tests as part of the interview and receive a full tour of the unit.
Qualifications and Skills
* Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills.
* Basic computer skills and ability to use a PC.
* High standards and genuine interest in healthcare and patient safety.
* Ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.
* No experience is necessary; full in‑house training is provided.
