About The Role
Working within the Engineering Department, the Applications Engineer transforms customer and contract requirements into engineered Switchgear solutions. The role develops technical specifications, supports contract designers in producing accurate Bills of Materials, and ensures high‑quality electrical and mechanical drawings for both production and customer use. It combines technical expertise with problem‑solving, offering the opportunity to supply tailored engineering solutions from concept through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Determine appropriate ratings and performance requirements from Tendering Specification and ensure equipment complies with customers switchgear specifications.
* Coach and train other staff in relevant technical areas.
* Work closely with customers to establish operational and performance requirements of the application (e.g., Current, Voltage and fault ratings) and ensure compliance with the appropriate BRUSH equipment.
* Issue detailed Engineering Specifications for Mechanical and Electrical Contract Designers, Manufacturing and Procurement departments, and design complex relay protection and substation control schemes.
* Create and issue Purchase Order Requisitions for relays and other ancillary equipment as required to meet the Engineering Specification, using the Company ERP system (SAGE).
* Liaise directly (and via BRUSH Commercial Department) with customers engineers on all technical matters relating to the specific contract.
* Design and produce internal software schemes where required to enable the overall scheme to function and provide technical assistance to Test Department when required.
* Assist with manufacturing and quality investigations (Non‑Conformance Reports).
* Assist manufacturing with Continuous Improvement implementation.
* Support the implementation of RoadMap projects.
Qualifications
Qualified to HNC level in an Electrical Engineering Discipline.

* Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
* Knowledge of quality systems.
* Working knowledge of business systems, SAGE ERP preferable.
* Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
* Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
* Knowledge of relevant industry switchgear standards.
Experience
* A minimum of 3 years of working within the switchgear industry.
* Commercial experience and/or BRUSH Switchgear product knowledge considered.
* Experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
* Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers.
