The job itself
Gentleman age 44 living in Goole is looking for a Support Worker to cover 10/12 hours per week.
The support will include coffee outings, accessing new places and to encourage to live independently. Engaging in the community and looking at available groups in the local and surrounding areas.
The candidate must be able to use their own initiative whilst also ensuring that an environment for maximising independence is maintained, however this needs to be flexible as his independence needs to be weighed up according to the activity or to travel arrangements, so a need to weigh up outside influences as to what might change i.e. travel change due to cancellations or lateness. Hours can then be amended accordingly. The candidate must be able to be sensitive to the needs of the individual, promoting privacy and dignity. It is crucial that the candidate is able to encourage and enable full participation in positive and meaningful activities that the gentleman enjoys and to his own ability.
Effective communication is essential - be thoughtful and considerate in their communication and actions and show a genuine interest in not only providing support but enabling the gentleman to be as independent as possible and achieve the most he can from his support package.
It is essential that candidates are patient, calm, collected and caring individuals with a good sense of humour who can motivate, encourage and be positively influential if required.
A car driver with access to own car is preferred but not essential.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
