The Company:
Our client is a well-established EPC business specialising in the design and manufacturing of equipment used within the aluminium processing industry. They supply both catalogue machines and full turnkey solutions for major international installations, with products widely used across the recycling and manufacturing sectors.
With more than 40 years of history in the UK, a headcount of around 90 staff, and a turnover of over £30 million, the business continues to grow. They are winning projects globally, including across Europe, Canada, and the Middle East, often valued between £8–10 million.
To support this expansion, they are now seeking a detail-driven and commercially minded Purchasing Manager to lead their purchasing and logistics function.
The Role:
This senior role sits within the supply chain team and reports directly to the Group Finance Director. It will take responsibility for managing purchasing and logistics activity across international engineering projects while leading and developing a small team.
The role manages 3 direct reports (Buyer, Spares Coordinator, and Logistics), with potential for future team growth.
Your Responsibilities will include:
Managing purchasing, spares, and logistics across multiple live projects
Developing supplier relationships and negotiating favourable commercial terms
Identifying new suppliers and evaluating their capacity, quality, and pricing
Raising and managing purchase orders, tracking spend, and ensuring accurate documentation
Overseeing international freight and logistics, including customs clearance and compliance (commodity codes, tariffs, and shipping documentation)
Collaborating with engineering to align purchasing with project specifications and delivery timelines
Attending internal project meetings to provide updates on supply chain progress and risks
Supporting finance with cost forecasting, analysis, and budget reviews
Monitoring market trends to anticipate risks and secure competitive supply
Coaching and upskilling the purchasing and logistics team to improve performance
Qualifications and Experience:
Significant experience in procurement or purchasing, with time spent in a leadership role
Strong background in international supply chains, freight, and purchasing processes
Understanding of Bills of Materials (BOMs); experience in machining/assembly environments is highly desirable
Skilled negotiator with proven examples of supplier cost savings or process improvements
Excellent Excel and general IT skills; ERP/MRP systems experience beneficial (Sage 200 advantageous)
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
