Deputy Editor – Advanced Computing

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Deputy Editor with a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Information Science, or a related field. The role will focus on the open‑access journal Advanced Computing within the Material Science & Physics – AI/Robotics cluster, working closely with Advanced Intelligent Systems. In this position you will leverage your scientific research background, publishing knowledge, and strong communication skills to drive strategic development of one or more journals, raise their profile, and attract new authors and content.


Job Responsibilities

* Strategically develop one or more journals in partnership with the Editor‑in‑Chief, from scientific and publishing perspectives within the broader physical sciences portfolio.
* Establish and maintain a strong network of scientists who are the journals' authors, peer reviewers, and board members.
* Leverage network, subject‑area knowledge, and research skills to drive content acquisition and submission growth.
* Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through in‑person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
* Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop the journal portfolio.
* Contribute to the editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision‑making for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.


Qualifications

* A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Information Science, or a related field with an excellent research background.
* Post‑PhD work experience (post‑doctoral, industrial, academic, publishing, or international) is beneficial but not essential.
* Subject matter expertise in theoretical computer science, algorithms, software engineering & programming languages, systems and networks, AI, or related fields.
* Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills; flexible and innovative problem‑solving approach.
* Ability to influence and engage collaborators to achieve results.
* Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).
* Solid understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning, peer‑review, Open Access workflows, and Open Research; prior editorial or publishing experience is highly desirable.
* Interest in science communication and advocacy for innovations in publishing and open research.
* Confidence to represent the journal portfolio at conferences.


Benefits & Compensation

We offer competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range for this role is 34,700 GBP to 49,767 GBP. Base pay may be higher or lower depending on geographic location, skills, and other non‑discriminatory factors.
