Consultant Haematologist – Special Interest in Myeloma
We are seeking a highly motivated Consultant Haematologist to further develop our clinical and laboratory haematology service at Dorset County Hospital. The role is full‑time, 10 PA, within a team of 4 Consultants, and includes on‑call 1:5. The successful candidate will specialise in Myeloma and contribute to clinical trials.
Main Duties
* Provide comprehensive haematological care for inpatient and outpatient services, including management of general haematology conditions.
* Advise on clinical haematology management and liaise with regional GPs via email system.
* Assume full clinical responsibility for patients admitted under general medicine inpatient provision, ensuring appropriate cover and cross‑coverage with colleagues.
* Provide continuous consultant supervision of the haematology laboratory, including out‑of‑hours assistance to junior medical staff.
* Respond to laboratory emergencies and atypical cases outside normal hours when necessary.
* Participate in clinical trials and research through collaboration with the research department.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Full GMC Registration and entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (within 6 months of interview).
* Appropriate higher medical qualification.
* Evidence of managing the demands of a district general hospital consultant Haematologist.
* Experience working within the NHS.
* Clinical skills required for haematology sub‑specialty, including myeloma management.
* Teaching and communication skills, ability to present to audiences.
* Understanding of Clinical Governance, audit participation, and service development.
* Management experience and service change capability.
* Current UK professional registration.
Desirable
* Interest in clinical trials and research, with experience setting up a portfolio of clinical trials.
Employment Details
Grade: Consultant. Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year (dependent on experience). Permanent, full‑time. Location: Dorset County Hospital, Williams Avenue, Dorchester, DT1 2JY.
