PalliativeCare Staff Nurse

Band5

We are looking for a caring, passionate and enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse tojoin our amazing team.

At our hospice, we provide exceptional care to patients and their families through some of the most challenging times of their lives. We support our patients in our In Patient Unit, at home plus in our Wellbeing Centre. Our charity specialises in palliative and end of life care for patients with complex and life limiting illnesses who live in North-West Surrey.

We ensure high quality care with great staff to patient ratios, making sure everyone feels cared for and valued. Our warm, clean and homely environment helps patients and families using our services feel safeand comfortable.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Colleague

A successfulPalliative Care Staff Nurse band 5: will be:

* Key member of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.
* To utilise your advanced nursing skills and knowledge
* Experience of palliative care is desirable; it is not essential as we can offer support through our training and development programme.
* A compassionate nurse who will play a key role in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence based individualised nursing care.
* You will also possess excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and be able to lead and motivate others.
* An ability to teach and support junior members of the team
* Supporting complex patients with their medical, social and psychological needs
* Engage in the development of the ward
* Focus on improving care and ensuring best practice at all times


About us

Successful candidatewill have:

* Current NMC Registration
* RN educated to Diploma or Degree level
* Palliative care qualification (orwillingness to work complete)
* Mentorship qualification (orwillingness to work complete)
* UK Registration
* Disclosure and Barring Service Check:This post issubject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and assuch it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to theDisclosure & Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for anyprevious criminal convictions.

Job responsibilities

Full details of the job are detailed in the attached job description but we set out a summary below.

To provide a high standard of individualised patientcentred care to patients with a life limiting illness and to provide care andsupport for relatives and carers on the Inpatient Unit.

To assist in the management and organisation of the nursingservice including the teaching of junior staff and students.

* Ability to work flexibly over a 7 day period


Planning and Organisation

* Able to manage a varied caseload
* Able to work autonomously and within a MDT
* Able to plan day to day visits and weekly reviews
* Able to monitor caseload and manage a waiting list
* To be able to anticipate disease progression and plan as appropriate


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to motivate and inspire others
* Ability to form and maintain professional working relationships
* Calm, organised, flexible, approachable, enthusiastic, and punctual
* Good working knowledge and application of the MS Office packages
* Effective time management and organisation skills
* Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
* Demonstrates a flexible approach to pattens of working
* Ability to work autonomously and in a team
* Advanced IT skills
* Community experience
* Evidence of introducing change and innovation into nursing practice


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
* Experience of ongoing professional development
* Mentorship qualification or working towards
* Oncology or Palliative experience


Experience

* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
* Knowledge of palliative care or relevant experience
* Knowledge of national, regional, and local policy in relation to quality standards, targets, and improvements initiatives
* Experience with Multi agency working
* Experience in helping to develop clinical services
