This is an excellent opportunity for an Lead Infrastructure Engineer to join a cloud transformation journey to AWS. You'll be working on a mixture of project based work & 3rd line support. The scale of the environment includes 3000 Windows server with a small footprint in Linux.
Lead Infrastructure Engineer - What will I be doing?
* Plan, design, and implement IT infrastructure solutions relating to compute, virtualisation, containerisation (both on-premise & AWS Cloud based), load balancers, primary storage, and backup that meets the business needs and requirements.
* Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of IT infrastructure with other IT systems and services.
* Provide out of hours support via the On-Call support rota and be prepared for occasional planned out of hours work when expected.
* Provide technical leadership, coach and mentor team members
Assist in managing security by:
* Installing operating systems patches and updates.
* Reviewing logs to investigate unauthorised activity.
* Administration of Active Directory and Group Policy.
Infrastructure Engineer - What do I need?
* Excellent understanding and experience of administrating Windows Server (including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP) and Linux (RedHat & Oracle) Operating Systems.
* Skills across Microsoft SCOM, SCCM, DPM, WSUS, Intune, Defender, Patch My PC and Windows Hyper-V for running over 1000 servers.
* Experience of administering & supporting both on-premise and AWS platforms
* Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Python and PowerShell will be a plus.
* Experience acting as a techical lead, coaching and mentoring team members
* Experience of designing and building solutions

* Qualifications in Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate or other relevant Microsoft credentials in desirable.

What will you do?
* Preparation of regional forecasts incorporating enhanced use of data and stakeholder inputs
* Analysing future network capabilities, identifying capacity requirements and creating strategic network development plans
* Delivery of NPg’s strategies for the fulfilment of the Whole System Licence condition which requires coordination and collaboration with other Electricity Distributors in order to build a common understanding where their actions could have cross-network impacts
* Identify future network constraints by undertaking network simulations to analyse the capability of our networks to accommodate forecast load, including power flow analysis, fault level calculations, voltage and thermal capability assessments
* Develop new capabilities, models and tools such as the use of Digital Twins, to anticipate constraints on the network. Implement automated analysis methodologies for the efficient application of future system forecasts in network assessments
* Work closely with the design and system flexibility teams to establish the most economic and efficient network investments, comparing traditional and non-wire smart solutions
* Maintain accurate distribution network models including equivalents of the transmission network at Grid Supply Point interfaces for steady state and dynamic analysis at all voltage levels
* Develop and deliver our Whole System Strategies in accordance with Ofgem’s Whole System Licence Condition, establishing strong working relationships with external stakeholders (NGESO, NGET, other Distribution Network Operators, other energy vector organisations)
* Good relationship builder with close liaison with senior colleagues providing inputs to forecasting and users of the outputs
* Strong analytical skills to interpret information and apply judgement to decision making
* Fundamental knowledge of the design, operation, protection and safety of electricity distribution networks, with an understanding of the decarbonisation energy transition, regulatory and licence requirements, and industry wide codes
* Strong written and spoken communication skills – clear, concise, engaging and persuasive with the ability to produce high quality bids and plans
* Manage own workload through excellent planning and organising skills with attention to detail. Good time management skills with the ability to deliver tasks to deadlines
* Strong IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
What qualifications and experience should you have?

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Wireless Communications & Electronics Engineer with a strong background in Telecommunications, Networking, and Wireless Communication to lead the development of robust remote-control solutions for our robotic platform. This role requires expertise in RC control, WiFi, LoRa, and other wireless protocols to ensure seamless operation in real-world conditions.
Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a Mechatronics background, with solid experience in electronics design and PCB development to create custom hardware solutions for our platform.

Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop low-latency wireless comms for remote-controlled robots (e.g. WiFi, LoRa, 4G/5G).
* Build and test robust PCBs and embedded hardware for long-range, real-time control.
* Own the comms architecture—from protocol selection to RF tuning and field testing.
* Work hands-on with our robotics and embedded teams to integrate and optimise signal pathways.
* Prototype, test, and iterate quickly in both lab and live environments.
* Lead documentation, testing reports, and technical troubleshooting.
* Mentor junior engineers and support hiring as we scale.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* 5+ years’ experience designing wireless systems for real-world, mobile, or autonomous systems.
* Solid grasp of RF protocols (WiFi, LoRa, Zigbee, LTE/5G) and networking (TCP/IP, MQTT, UDP).
* Hands-on PCB design (Altium, KiCad, or similar), and experience sourcing/managing components.
