We’re delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an Aspiring Psychologist – Psychology Graduate to work as a Learning Support Assistant in secondary schools across Gateshead. This full-time role is ideal for graduates eager to gain practical experience in neurodiversity, emotional regulation, and therapeutic education.
Location: Gateshead
Salary: From £101.40 per day
Start Date: November 2025 (interviews available from today)
Contract: Term-time only, Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

You’ll be working with students aged 11–18 who may have Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
You’ll gain daily experience in:
Applying psychological and therapeutic approaches such as sensory integration and emotional regulation.
Collaborating with SEND specialists, therapists, and pastoral teams.
Supporting pupils through restorative practices and behaviour intervention strategies.
Developing professional skills in observation, reflection, and communication—all essential for psychology careers.
This role will give you a strong foundation in trauma-informed practice, child development, and mental health support—skills that will set you apart in postgraduate training or further psychology study.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with additional needs.
Assist in implementing individual learning and behaviour plans.
Support pupils with emotional regulation and sensory needs (training provided).
Build positive, trusting relationships that promote student confidence and wellbeing.
Observe, record, and reflect on student progress with professionalism and empathy.

A degree in Psychology or a related discipline (essential).
A genuine interest in child development, SEND, and mental health.
Experience working with young people (desirable).
