Job Overview: Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)

*Must be based in the UK*

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our dynamic team within a hospital setting. As an ODP, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care during surgical procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring patient safety, comfort, and well-being while assisting the surgical team. This position demands a strong understanding of aseptic techniques, critical care, and medical terminology, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Prepare and maintain the operating theatre, ensuring that all equipment is sterile and ready for use.
* Assist in the administration of anaesthesia and monitor patients' vital signs during surgical procedures.
* Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal care.
* Implement infection prevention control measures to minimize risks during surgery.
* Provide support to patients pre-operatively and post-operatively, ensuring their comfort and understanding of the procedure.
* Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient care, ensuring compliance with hospital policies.
* Assist in the management of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is appropriately stocked and in working order.
* Stay up-to-date with advancements in surgical techniques, particularly those related to paediatrics and critical care.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

* HCPC registration (Health and Care Professions Council).
* A recognized qualification in Operating Department Practice or an equivalent.
* Proficiency in aseptic technique and a strong understanding of infection prevention control protocols.
* Familiarity with medical terminology and an understanding of physiology relevant to surgical procedures.
* Experience working in a hospital environment, especially in ICU or critical care settings, is an advantage.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential; Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is desirable.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* A compassionate approach to patient care, with a focus on safety and delivering quality outcomes.
