Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Support Engineer to join a specialist engineering team supporting the delivery, maintenance, and development of complex electro-mechanical systems within the rail and industrial sectors.
This role is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical design, fault-finding, and technical documentation experience who enjoys problem-solving in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage electrical engineering tasks, testing activities, and technical issues alongside senior engineering personnel.
Create, maintain, and develop electrically focused job packs and engineering documentation.
Manage engineering changes (ECs), concessions, and technical updates related to electrical systems.
Create, review, certify, and maintain electrically biased Bills of Materials (BoMs).
Control and maintain electrical drawings, manuals, technical data, and system documentation.
Design, specify, select, and reverse engineer electrical components, systems, and test equipment.
Carry out investigations, root cause analysis, and fault diagnosis relating to NCRs, warranty claims, customer complaints, and equipment failures.
Coordinate wiring-related special processes and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
Additional Duties
Conduct condition assessments and failure investigations and produce technical reports.
Support and mentor colleagues to improve technical knowledge and safety awareness.
Assist with supplier selection, technical assessments, and purchasing support.
Provide specialist engineering support for multi-brand or legacy equipment projects.
Fault diagnosis and root cause analysis experience essential
Requirements
HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Avionics, or related Engineering discipline.
Minimum 2 years’ design engineering experience (4+ years preferred).
Experience in design engineering, reverse engineering, testing, and technical problem-solving.
Rail industry experience preferred; candidates from marine, oil & gas, industrial, or similar sectors will also be considered.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, diagnostics, and engineering fundamentals.
Experience using CAD and ERP systems (TeamCenter/NX and SAP desirable).
Excellent communication and IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable Knowledge
Rail systems and products including sensors, transmissions, couplers, and drives.
Engineering and quality standards such as ISO 9001, RSSB, RISAS, RISQS, and TfL/LUL standards.
Knowledge of NPI, FMECA, system integration, and validation activities.
