Our Avionics business serves a wide variety of domestic and international customers in the aerospace sector, covering both the Civil and Military domains, including: Supporting the development of our next generation Mission Management Systems or Secure Information System for military helicopter platforms The continuing support and sustainment of our in-service products, including Avionics Mission Systems and Secure Intercom Systems. Conduct Safety Management activities associated to our Civil and Military Approvals such as Part 145 Maintenance and Part 21G Production activities. Supporting delivery of the several studies we are undertaking to shape the future of aircraft communication systems We are expanding our specialist system safety engineering team and are actively recruiting for a Safety Engineer, this role is available at Engineer or Senior Engineer level level and will work closely with the Avionics Safety Authority and technical directorate. Key tasks/Responsibilities: Supporting Project Design Authorities by delivering complex safety programmes associated with a variety of Thales products, systems and services. Applying and leveraging your knowledge of Systems Safety Engineering to complex systems and being instrumental in successful delivery Undertaking Systems Safety activities such as HAZOP/HAZID, FTA, FMECA and ensuring alignment to the SMS. Generating or conducting updates to safety cases and other key safety artefacts. Working in multidisciplinary project/product teams to identify and manage hazards and risks. Working with Bid teams to develop estimates and safety strategies for future business ventures. what we are looking for in the successful individual: A degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area. Experience of Systems Safety Engineering activities in a complex, safety focussed and regulated organisation, such as rail, aerospace, nuclear or oil & gas. Experience of preparing complex Safety Cases and familiar with ALARP principles and arguments. Demonstrable experience of undertaking Systems Safety activities including System Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Common Cause Failure Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Hazard Logs and System Hazard Analysis Reports. Ability to work collaboratively in an engineering development environment, ensuring Systems Safety compliance is achieved throughout the project life cycle. Experience in the application of standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508. Any knowledge/experience of Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-051, ARP4761, DO178 or DO254 would be advantageous Security Clearance statement: Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions.
