Serco: Darent Valley Hospital, DA2 8DA Permanent, Full Time Up to £75,000 Car Corporate Benefits Package As a Technical Engineering Manager in our Health team, you’ll lead and shape the engineering function that keeps essential hospital services running safely, reliably, and to the highest technical standards. Your work will have a direct and positive impact on patient care, clinical teams, and the wider community. You’ll be a core member of the Senior Management Team, providing technical leadership, guidance and advise that ensures safe systems of work, full statutory and mandatory compliance, and a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement across engineering services. You’ll develop and mentor future technical leaders, actively promote and strengthen resilience across all elements of engineering infrastructure, and support the development of meaningful relationships which are built on trust and mutual dependency with the NHS, SPV and all other key stakeholders. What you’ll do You’ll be entrusted to: Lead and develop the engineering function to ensure all reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) is delivered to the highest technical and safety standards, meeting statutory, mandatory, and contractual obligations. Produce and manage the annual planned preventative maintenance schedule across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, MGPS, water safety, specialist systems, and critical infrastructure. Act as Authorised Person (AP) for Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (HTM 02–01) and Low Voltage Electrical Systems (LV), ensuring safe systems of work, technical permit control, and competence of appointed personnel. Ensure robust auditing processes and governance are in place to maintain compliance and deliver continuous assurance of engineering safety systems. Lead engineering risk assessments, critical system reviews, and infrastructure resilience planning, escalating risks appropriately through Technical Safety Groups. Provide technical and managerial support for capital schemes, from design evaluation to on‑site supervision. Develop and mentor engineering mangers, supervisors, APs, and technical leads, building capability, succession planning, and a culture of high technical standards. Deputise for the Contract Manager when required, representing the Estates function and collaborating with the NHS Trust, SPV, and clinical colleagues. What you’ll need You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have… Suitable engineering qualifications (Degree or operational equivalent), ideally with experience in a hospital environment. Previous experience holding AP duties within a healthcare setting. Strong technical knowledge of typical hospital engineering systems and a sound operational understanding of CAFM systems. The ability to write clear technical and managerial reports, with confidence managing compliance, safety, and service performance. Experience developing others, coaching technical teams, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and safety.
