Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Consultant Urology Surgeon, with Special Interest in Robotic Surgery, to join their team of 10 Urology consultants, 1 associate specialist, 4 Specialist Registrars, 2 senior clinical fellows. The Urology Directorate provides services for the population of Gwent and South Powys (649,000), centralised at the Royal Gwent Hospital. On Call is provided at Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, non resident.
The Urology Department offers outpatient, diagnostic and administrative services from a dedicated department, which is adjacent to the Urology wards and emergency assessment unit. The main radiology department is in close proximity as is the urology day case unit, and urology theatres. From April 2024 we will also be able to offer robotic surgery, which will be situated in the main theatre suite.
The Department has an excellent reputation for expertise in the management of urological cancer, laparoscopic surgery, female urology and urinary stone disease. Robotic surgery will be available from April 2024. Our services have been developed with the dedicated support of nurse practitioners who are an integral part in the management of patients with urological cancer and benign urological conditions
Main duties of the job
The post holder's time job plan will include outpatient clinics, surgical sessions, administrative duties and provision of care for inpatient, day case and emergency admission. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical outcomes for patients under their management and continuing responsibility for patients in their your care, in liaison with advanced nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, Consultant colleagues, junior clinical team, patients and families Supervision of junior members of the clinical team
To conduct clinical practise in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Boards agreed objectives
To maintain and develop sub-speciality interests that compliments those of the current team.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-
1. To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
2. To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the speciality
3. To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
4. To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
5. To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans
6. To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the speciality, the Scheduled Care Division or the Health Board
